It has been another busy, exciting, and successful year for Public Health in Liverpool.<\/p>\n This year, our focus has been on creating healthier cities, building on the themes of the Chief Medical Officer\u2019s Annual Report, where we were delighted to be asked to contribute a featured chapter. We are committed to improving the environment in Liverpool for the benefit of all those living and working here. <\/p>\n This report offers an overview of just some of the fantastic collaborations taking place across Liverpool City Council, with local organisations, and within our communities. It highlights the work being done to improve the health and well-being of our residents.<\/p>\n Included in this year\u2019s report is our work on Health in All Policies, which includes partnering with the planning team to embed health at the core of planning decisions. There are also several exciting projects happening throughout our communities, all aimed at improving the lives of our people.<\/p>\n Alongside showcasing these brilliant initiatives, the report also outlines a number of recommendations. Liverpool is a vibrant dynamic City with fantastic people and strong communities. However, it also faces significant challenges. Liverpool is the third most deprived local authority in England. Linked to this, Liverpool has some of the worst health outcomes in the country. The State of Health in the City: Liverpool 2040 report sets out that unless we make changes now, health outcomes are predicted to worsen in Liverpool by 2040. The report has been a call to action and has led to a renewed commitment for collective effort to support our residents to enjoy the best possible health.<\/p>\n This years Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Annual report<\/a> is focused on Health in Cities. Liverpool has a feature chapter in the report following the CMO Professor Chris Whitty visiting Liverpool in May 2024. During this visit Professor Whitty had chance to hear about the challenges faced by the City, all of the brilliant work taking place and future priorities. Professor Whitty\u2019s visit included a dedicated session with the Public Health team where he shared his own views on the unique PH challenges faced by Cities such as Liverpool and his views on future priorities.<\/p>\n In November Liverpool welcomed Sir Michael Marmot, an internationally renowned public health expert and advocate for health equity. His visit aimed to raise the profile of our Fairer, Healthier Liverpool group and to showcase the critical work underway to tackle health inequalities as we pursue Marmot city status which we hope to announce in April. Securing Sir Michael\u2019s presence is a significant achievement for Liverpool, underscoring the importance of the city\u2019s commitment to improving public health and reducing inequalities.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s PHAR for the Liverpool Public Health team builds on the CMO annual report to show how we are making Liverpool a fairer, healthier stronger city for all.
